A foundation. It is the first thing done in building anything and it determines whether the structure will last, stand and hold tight under pressure. So, your foundation is a pretty important thing to get right. However, so many are standing on a foundation that is not solid, a foundation that is falling apart or a foundation that is as firm as a banana peel. But, as Christian, this is never the case. Our foundation is in Jesus Christ, and there is no surer foundation than in Him.
Jesus tells us a parable in Matthew 7:24-27 about this particular topic. We read
“Everyone then who hears these words of mine and does them will be like a wise man who built his house on the rock. And the rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house, but it did not fall, because it had been founded on the rock. And everyone who hears these words of mine and does not do them will be like a foolish man who built his house on the sand. And the rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew and beat against that house, and it fell, and great was the fall of it.”
The world offers us many foundations, but none that can stand in the storms of life. Your wisdom, your strength, your awesomeness, your bank account, your job, many weak and vain philosophies and even foundations we build upon other people will all fail us. Most of us know this first hand. But, and here is the glorious part, Jesus Christ will never fail us. He is the solid foundation, the one who never changes, the one who is strength, who is wisdom and the one who is peace. He only saves, and He alone is our anchor in times of distress and our hope in times of need.
Today if you are building on any other foundation than Jesus Christ, call on Him who is mighty to save. Return to the firm foundation of Christ, set your anchor there, and let Him comfort you, protect you, provide for you and sustain you. Taste and see that the Lord is good...even in the thought times. Return to the solid ground at Calvary.
